CND Shellac Releases 12 New Shades for Nails and New Packaging

To see hand swatches of the product, check here

After creating a world-wide beauty frenzy May/June 2010 with Shellac, a hybrid polish gel that lasts two weeks without chipping, CND pulled the scheduled releases of their color launches just to accommodate initial orders.  Selling out four times over initial projections, nail pros and salon goers alike could not get enough of the 3-free (no formaldehyde, toluene or DBP)  perfect manicure with the incredible shine.

So it is with a bit of sadness that November would have been the launch date for a new round of colors – but it is okay to get excited because the next 12 colors have officially been announced! Here in all of their glory:
Mother of Pearl, Beau, Clearly Pink, Iced Coral, Cocoa, Gotcha, Hot Pop Pink, Hollywood, Decadence, Masquerade, Rock Royalty, Black Pool

What do you think of the new lineup?  I know, it is a little hard to tell, but you get a general idea.  I’m glad they have a straight black but I wish there was a grey or greige this round.

CND was rumored to be working toward nearly 100 releases by next fall.

New Packaging

CND has also started shipping the existing collection in new packaging.  To distinguish Shellac’s unique formula from regular polish, the product was originally encased in hard, oval plastic tubes with a black base.  It was probably very expensive but not very effective.

All of that has changed with the new boxes that began shipping last month. The packaging is actually more attractive, easier to ship, uses much less plastic and displays/stores better. Total win for everyone.

From oval to rectangle

Minimal plastic still keeps item secure

Slight changes in bottles too – I’m going to miss the more tactile feel on the original top, but new one very easy to manuver

Let me know your favorites or your CND Shellac polish color wish list in the comments

Giveaway 2: Fancy Nights by Jessica Simpson

The fragrance is as friendly as it is spicy, like a sweet sparkle of magical romance.

Jessica Simpson is back in more ways than one.  The freshly-engaged-on-the-heels-of-Nick-Lachey’s-engagement tale is one to wag tongues, but with all of her foibles, she manages to put out a highly marketable line of shoes, purses and fragrances every year.

Last year I featured Fancy Love , a very captivating scent that received rave reviews.  This year I’m thrilled to be able to offer Jessica’s latest in the line called Fancy Nights as a giveaway.

This fragrance is again housed in the familiar round bottle that was designed after an antique perfume rumored to be kept on Ms. Simpson’s dresser.  While the top remains gold, the glass is emerald to reflect the darker, more serious scent.  The breakdown is as follows:

Top Notes: Bergamot, Papyrus

Heart: Indonesian Patchouli, Bulgarian Red Rose, Night Blooming Jasmine

Base: Sandalwood, Tonka Bean, Peru Balsam, Exotic Amber, Oak Moss, Vanilla Absolute, Cedar Wood

If you follow fragrance house rock stars, this is another collaboration with perfumer Steve DeMercado.

Fancy Nights by Jessica Simpson was initially released over the summer, which surprises me because it is certainly appropriate for fall.  It is a beautifully packaged scent that will be enjoyed by you or perfect to gift this Christmas.

This giveaway ends Tuesday, December 7th Pacific Time 11:59pm.
You must check back on the site to see if you have been selected as we have had difficulty contacting people.

Giveaway: The Magic of Myrrh – Talika Nail Regenerating Serum

Congrats to MIN who was randomly selected to receive one tube of Talika Nail Serum. Min has a problem with splitting nails – this will be perfect.  Please contact me within 48 hours at solessencenews @  gmail.com to arrange shipment.  Thank you to Talika for this giveaway.

This sexy blue cylinder of serum sports the power of Myrrh oil, long known to nourish nail beds.  The viscous, honey-like consistency is channeled through a foam tip for easy application and avoids waste.  Perfect for travel, this myrrh serum adds a thick protection.  Work in and around nail and cuticles; the thick formulation assures protection during the day.  100% plant oils smell divine.

On the Go:   Talika Nail Regenerating Serum : Ideal for heavy duty repair on fragile, peeling and/or slow growing nails

Quick! Name an oil that gained popular recognition from history going back to biblical times.  Three Wise Men were on a trek to visit the newborn Jesus, and what did they bring as welcoming gifts?  Gold, Frankincense and…(drumroll) Myrrh.

If you aren’t familiar with Myrrh, it is a beautiful gold resin valued for fragrance and medicinal qualities.  Check out the many properties for why it has been used to treat topical conditions:

  • Antiviral
  • Antibacterial
  • Antifungal
  • Antiseptic
  • Astringent

Myrrh  is also believed to stimulate blood circulation. For these reasons it held a value similar to gold. It is also for these reasons that it is an optimal ingredient to use on nails. When combined into an oil, a thick, viscous quality provides a good coating of protection for cuticles and nail beds.  This protection helps prevent peeling layers.  Blood flow is stimulated which encourages a healthy matrix, in turn increasing nail growth.  And in my opinion, you can’t beat the scent.

Interested in trying a little myrrh therapy? You’ll have best results if applied daily, especially with winter coming on.

Talika is a French brand sold worldwide through their website and beauty stockists.

YOU can be the lucky recipient of one (1) Talika Nail Regenerating Serum ($37USD retail value).  To qualify:
