St. Pucchi Couture Bridal Runway – 25th Anniversary

It takes a lot to run a business in fashion, and Rani Totman has led the way for St. Pucchi bridal for 25 years.  This in-demand couture bridal line started at the whim of a request, and has grown to dress celebrities and multiple sport figures wives alike.  St. Pucchi gowns often make their way to the screen (remember “Friends” Phoebe getting married in one?) because they are statement dresses.

For the 25th anniversary, a tribute was setup before the show featuring Rani’s own selection of gowns to represent the decades.  Chilled waters and flutes of champagne were sipped as I spoke with Rani’s daughter about the daunting task of selecting the specific gowns to bring, and it was a great perspective.  Photographs highlighted other looks over the years, and Rani’s press photograph was framed to sign.  Want to see more?  Check this post to see a brief chat with Rani herself discussing the beauty aspect.

Then the show!

Oh the gowns – there are  many of them – and I have them all here for you to view.

Rani Totman makes use of feathers, beading, ribbons and anything else her heart fancies:

With a few mischevious touches (Yes, that is a peek-a-boo corset. Wait until you see the front!):

A bit of lace ( all nails by Zoya Nail Polish):

I think this model must be a fav or some sort of muse because she is pictured over the years in St. Pucchi gowns.  I love her!  Isn’t her look reminiscent of Paulina Porizkova?

Some intense beading:

And flowers:

Want to see them in action?  YouTube has put a worldwide block on my videos because of the runway music (really YouTube?) but you can view them here:

Trunk shows are starting to book.  Please contact St. Pucchi or your local bridal boutique to inquire about the line.

First Look: Young Nails LED Light Lamp

My review of the Young Nails lamp.  LED is the future for nail pros.  Although this system is for maniQ and maniQ colors, the lamp will work with products that contain LED photoinitiators.

Pros: An LED has three advantages: no UV controversy, cost effectiveness and speed.  This Young Nails model is also incredibly compact with a pleasant design.

Cons: 4 finger then 1 thumb, 1 thumb cure.  Updated to add: The finger placement continues to be a bit of an issue in a salon environment.  Other techs have also experienced that clients have difficulty consistently getting the fingers at the right angles.  This may or may not annoy your clientele and, if not properly cured, will created lifted corners or other issues related to improper cure.  LED is great, my opinion is this lamp requires a bit of precision that doesn’t always take place on the client end during services.  It may be worth looking into a full hand lamp that has more internal lighting elsewhere.

She’s Got the Look: Dianna Agron, Golden Globes

Last night was a good night for Glee’s Dianna Agron – she not only hit the Golden Globes red carpet looking smashing styled by Pantene’s celebrity hair stylist Danilo – she also took home a win in Best Television Series (Comedy or Musical).

Danilo focused on complimenting Agron’s J. Mendel dress with a half-up glamour style that would look good from all angles, look loose, but wouldn’t be something she’d have to fuss with fixing – “It was very simple, very pretty hair that was clean, contemporary Hollywood glamour.”

This is a personal style I love to wear, and Danilo shares with Solessence readers how he recommends getting this look at home:

1)      Start with freshly-washed, towel-dried hair so it’s clean for styling.
2)      Mist your hair with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Heat Protection & Shine Spray for a conditioning base, and then spray the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Root Lifter Spray Gel on your roots to prep hair for volume on top.
3)      Blow dry your hair, then use a dollop of the Pantene Pro-V Restore Beautiful Lengths Smoothing Balm to coat each section of hair before applying heat from the iron.
4)      Using a medium-to-large curling iron for the glamour set, curl hair down and under before setting to cool.
5)      Once hair has cooled in the set (10-15 minutes), release the curls and brush through to reveal voluminous waves.
6)      Lightly spread more of the Smoothing Balm through your waves as needed to clean up the slides and tame fly-aways.
7)      Part your hair to the side of your preference, smoothing hair back on each side with your fingers, and pin back with your hair pieces.
8)      Pull the remaining hair forward, shaping hair to appear full out of the hair pieces so the waves fall in front of your shoulders for a soft, elegant look.
9)      Use a finishing spray like the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Professional Level Style Shaping Hairspray on the front and sides of hair to lock in loose curls. Leave the back curls alone so they keep their flowing movement.
