She’s got the look: Jennifer Lawrence, Dior, Dove and Sally Hansen

“This is Dior Haute Couture. I don’t know what haute means, but I had to say it.” – Jennifer Lawrence on her Golden Globes dress

Jennifer Lawrence set tongues on fire when she showed up on the red carpet in a stunning Dior gown with gold metallic belt, one of two Dior gowns she was rumored to be musing over.  I don’t quite get the “cup” holders, but it’s pure glamour, nonetheless.  Dove Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend focused on hair to accent the silhouette of the dress, and shares with Solessence readers how to get this look:

“When I saw Jennifer’s Dior Couture gown I immediately knew I wanted to pull her hair up to accentuate the amazing silhouette of the dress.

  • Start by applying a large dollop of the Dove Style+Care Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse to damp hair and dry with a diffuser attachment to encourage natural curls.
  • Next, take random sections of hair and spray Dove Style+Care Strength & Shine Flexible Hold Hairspray before wrapping the hair around a 1/2 inch curling iron to enhance the curls.
  • Spray Oribe Dry Texture spray all over and scrunched with hands.
  • Take 3 to 4 inch sections of hair around the hairline and loosely braid before pulling all the hair back into a low chignon.  Secure with bobby pins.
“As always, I finished with the Dove Style+Care Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray to keep the hair in place all night.”

She’s got the look: Connie Britton, Golden Globes

Celebrity hairstylist Rod Ortega created Connie Britton’s classic 1940’s old Hollywood look for the 2013 Golden Globes

I love Connie Britton as an actress, but I’ve also long envied her hair.  Inspired by Rita Hayworth’s look in ‘Gilda’, celebrity hairstylist Rod Ortega used luxury hair line Leonor Greyl to style Britton’s gorgeous, long locks.  Lucky us, Solessence readers get the steps to recreate this look!

Get this look at home

  • Dampen hair and prep it with Leonor Greyl’s Serum de Soie Sublimateur on the ends.
  • On the roots, apply Leonor Greyl’s Mousse au Lotus Volumatrice. Ortega used both of these products together to guarantee healthy, high shine, and movable hair through the evening.
  • Begin blow drying the hair with a round boar brush, smoothing out the hair and finished drying it
  • Before using a heat styling tool, Ortega recommends using Leonor Greyl’s Spray Structure Naturelle. “This setting spray is very important because it’s going to give the hold for the style.”
  • Use a 1-inch curling iron and set the hair with the setting spray.  Let hair cool and brush the waves out with a large paddle brush into beautiful, shiny waves.
  • Secure the waves with Leonor Greyl’s Lacque Souple, a couple of pumps of the Leonor Greyl Spray Structure Naturelle to finish the look.

This is one of my favorite luxury lines, and you must treat yourself to it this year.  Leonor Greyl is available at WWW.leonorgreyl-usa.com

She’s Got the Look: Katniss Everdeen

Looking for Halloween inspiration? For Solessence readers, Pantene enlisted the help of top makeup artists Erica Whelan and Kerrie Urban to create a step-by-step for the hottest looks this Halloween. No Big Bird here! Try the long, flowing locks of The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen for a little treat.

Get the look at home!

1. Start with a clean face and dry hair.

2. Use a dollop of Pantene Beautiful Lengths Strengthen and Smooth Finishing Crème to add texture and smooth frizziness.

3. Starting on the side where the hair is parted, pull a fairly large section of hair from behind the ear to start a reverse French braid – almost like a corn row.

4. Grab small sections as you go, making sure the braid is tight.

5. Angle to braid so it swoops down around the neck.

6. Secure the end of the braid with an elastic band.

7. Take about an inch of hair from around the face and wiggle it out of the braid.

8. Loosely wrap that section of hair around the barrel of a curling iron and set.

9. Spray hair with Pantene Pro-V Stylers Anti-Humidity Maximum Hold Hairspray.

10. Pull out another strand of hair on the opposite side and let it hang loose or pin it back if it’s too long.

11. Starting at the top, massage the braid to pull it apart loosely so it’s not super structured.

12. Once complete, the braid should look a little bit messy.

13. Remember to keep makeup simple because Katniss is a hunter. Start with COVERGIRL + Olay Powder in a shade darker than your normal skin tone to warm up the complexion. Apply where the sun would naturally tan your face…

14. Use COVERGIRL Outlast All-Day Lipcolor on lips and cheeks to create a subtle sunburn effect.

15. Coat the top and bottom lashes with COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume mascara.

16. When you’re finished, you should have a wilderness look, like you’ve been hunting for days!

Chanel is the Pitts

We all want to see Brad Pitt rep Chanel. We just would like him to not look slovenly and coming off a bender.

I never thought I could feel disdain for a brand that pushes great purses, polishes and perfumes, but after debuting a French manicure on the runway and now using the Haight Ashbury version of Brad Pitt for their Chanel No 5 commercial, I feel those double Cs stand for Crazyx2. Let’s get back on track, peoples. I’d laugh, but I’m weeping. If he had to look so unkempt, couldn’t they have run with this version?

Zooey Deschanel Goes Hollywood Glam for hair and nails at 64th Emmy Awards

For the Emmy Awards, Zooey Deschanel’s powder blue Reem Acra gown was the inspiration for her Old Hollywood updo created by Stylist Mara Roszak. “We both decided her hair should be up and off the neck,” Roszack said, “keeping the hair soft, feminine and elegant.”

Get this look at home!

  • Mara started by applying the Pantene Normal to Thick Flowing Body Mousse to Zooey’s damp hair.
  • She then blew out Zooey’s hair with a boar bristle brush and set it in rollers for extra volume.
  • To begin the styling process, Mara sprayed Pantene Fine Hair Style Touchable Volume Hairspray all over to help set the hair.
  • Mara removed the rollers, and then gently brushed the hair out.
  • For visual interest, Mara used a fine tooth comb to create a 60’s inspired bump at the crown of Zooey’s head.
  • The style went full-on glam when Mara pulled the hair back into a mid-height ponytail and pinned the ends under, creating a tucked chignon.
  • To finish off the look Mara sprayed Pantene Normal to Thick Anti Humidity Hairspray all over for extra hold throughout the night.

Zooey also continued to channel her inner nail goddess by complementing her Old Hollywood look with retro televisions and a light smattering of Swarovski stars on her digits. Hunk o’ burning love celeb manicurist Tom Bachik created the peach look as Deschanel  “…wanted to keep this look soft and fresh but sparkly.”

Get this look at home!

  • Start by applying a thin yellow coat of L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Tweet Me
  • Add a coat of L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Sweet Nothings
  • Chunky silver metallic shade on random areas of the nails will create a glittery fade-out; add Swarovski crystals in the glitter
  • Finish with hand-painted nail art
