SAG 2013: Jennifer Lawrence, Dove Hair, Dior, Chopard, Jimmy Choos and…walking pneumonia?

Jennifer Lawrence could not miss the 19th annual SAG Awards.  Even walking pneumonia couldn’t keep the twice nominated “Silver Linings Playbook” (and winning) actress away, and she still managed to look stunning while under the weather.

Decked out in Christian Dior Couture, she graced the gown with a 38-carat diamond necklace, emerald-cut 6-carat diamond studs, and a diamond ring , all from Chopard. Her Jimmy Choo “Tease” sandals graced her feet, but it was her cascading curls that gave her a kiss of health.

Dove Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend gives Solessence readers the background for his inspiration and steps so you can try this at home or for your stylist at the salon:

“For the Screen Actors Guild Awards I was inspired by Old Hollywood glamor, so I wanted Jennifer’s hair to show that influence and inspiration, but I wanted it to be young and very modern as well.

– To get her side swept waves, I started by applying a nickel size amount of the new Dove Color Care Leave On Conditioner into Jennifer’s damp hair; she’s colored her hair so much lately so her hair needs added moisture and protection.

– Next, I loaded her hair with the Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse and blow dried with a large round brush. To give her hair a loose wave, I wrapped sections of hair varying from 2 to 5 inches around a 1 1/4 inch curling iron, leaving the ends out.

– Then, I took a small amount of Dove Frizz-Free Shine Cream-Serum in my hands, rubbed my hands together, and then raked my fingers through the waves to break them up and give the hair amazing shine.

– I then took the hair from the right side, twisted it, and then pinned it in the back with a few bobby pins. To give the hair a cool, lived-in texture I sprayed Oribe Dry Texture Spray from mid-length to ends and scrunched with my hands.

– As always, I finished by spraying Dove Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray liberally all over to keep her hair in place all night and give the hair even more shine.”

Bang! Bang! Get Michelle Obama’s fabulous fringe, courtesy Fekkai Hair

First Lady Michelle Obama kicked off the new year with a bang (literally!) She updated her signature layered bob with a face-framing fringe that, just like her fashion sense, is setting a new bar for White House-chic. Fekkai stylist Lindsay Block gave us her insider tips on how she recreated FLOTUS’s look on a Fekkai model:

Get the look:

1. Start by washing hair with a protein-infused shampoo and conditioner. Lindsay used PrX Reparatives Shampoo and Conditioner to nourish strands and ensure sleek, soft hair.

2. Lindsay recommends having a stylist cut bangs that will frame and compliment your face. Complete the the cut by trimming split ends and requesting long layers to add volume and body.

3. Blow dry hair straight using a large round brush and go over strands with a flatiron once hair is completely dry for a sleek look.

4. Using your hands, apply Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Crème to keep bangs looking shiny without weighing them down.

5. Lightly spray the entire head with Fekkai COIFF Sheer Hold Hairspray for a flexible hold on your new look!

She’s got the look: Rachel Weisz, Vidal Sassoon hair at Golden Globes

Rachel Weisz took on a “very old Hollywood glamour” look at the Golden Globes, as styled by Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Celebrity Stylist Ben Skervin

Ben Skervin sought to channel sexy 1930s hair to compliment Weisz’ Louis Vuitton dress.  Her red lips and nail tips were pretty smashing as well.

Thanks to Vidal Sassoon Pro series for sharing the step with Solessence readers so we can try this at home!

Here’s how Ben suggests getting the look:

  • Starting with damp hair, apply Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray and blow-dry hair straight.
  • Once hair is dry, tuck hair behind left ear. On that same side, take small sections and curl hair down a 1-inch barrel curling iron.
  • After 20 seconds, remove the iron and pin the section in a roll while it cools. Repeat this process until the whole head is curled.
  • Then, on the untucked side, repeat the same process but with a ½-inch curling iron to give a stronger wave around the face.
  • Once all the hair cools, remove the pinned sections and brush hair into a soft, sexy wave.
  • To keep hair tucked behind the ear, apply a small amount of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Mega Firm Hold Gel.
  • Lastly, lightly mist with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extra Firm Hold Hairspray to hold the style in place, leaving it with a sleek, finished look.

She’s got the look: Sparkling Burnt Orange Almonds

The almond nail shape is a favorite for this singer, but the color choice was a bit unusual for the red carpet. To be fair, it could be photography. Who is this envelope pusher (and opener)?

New mama and Golden Globe winner Adele! Congratulations.
Update: It’s copper. Try this at home with Sally Hansen New Complete Salon Manicure in Copper Penny and So Much Fawn
