Supermodel Gisele the new crowning glory for Pantene

For more than a decade, women around the globe have been using the phrase “I want Gisele hair” to describe their ultimate hair inspiration. Beginning in January 2014, Pantene, the world’s #1 hair care brand*, and one of the world’s most recognized supermodels, Gisele Bündchen, are coming together to create a match made in hair heaven. Bündchen will appear in all elements of the brand’s holistic marketing campaign, including TV and print advertising, in-store displays, iMedia and public relations outreach. The international supermodel has been representing Pantene in Brazil since 2007.

“Gisele is truly a woman who has it all – not only does she have one of the most iconic heads of hair in the beauty world but she is also a true role model with a huge heart,” says Kevin Crociata, Marketing Director of North American Hair Care at Procter & Gamble. “We want to celebrate Gisele not only for her beauty, but also her genuine passion to empower women to be their best selves. Her tremendous career accomplishments, her success as a mother of two wonderful children, and her ongoing philanthropic work are an inspiration for women to be beautiful both inside and out. We are proud to now have her as part of our North American Pantene family.”

“I feel my hair has been through it all– from being styled more than ten times in one day to enjoying the sun and surf with my children – and Pantene has helped to keep it healthy with every wash, no matter what the day may bring,” says Bündchen. “I love that Pantene not only stands for healthy, strong hair, but also encourages women to give back specifically through a program like Pantene Beautiful Lengths.”

Gisele Bündchen will be the face of the new Pantene campaign debuting in January 2014, which will be the launch of Pantene‘s NEW first-ever, clinically-tested, anti-oxidant damage-blocking technology (EDDS). This damage blocking technology targets, captures and helps reduce copper build-up on hair to help prevent oxidative damage, which over time leads to a new dimension of strong, healthy hair. This technology will be across most Pantene shampoo formulas and works to preserve the long-term health of hair.

Pantene will also launch the NEW Damage Detox Collection, designed for women in need of an elevated level of damage repair looking to essentially ‘reset’ their hair, is the first-to-mass detoxifying shampoo, conditioner, and treatment system that cleanses impurities, protects from oxidative damage and provides shine.

Swatches: Gel II and Gel II Reaction

I first found out about Gel II from the Nails Magazine Next Top Nail Artist competition.  As a participant I was sent a package of goodies that included their Polish II.  I really loved the colors and super smooth application of the lacquer.

I recently had a chance to get to know the Gel II and Gel II Reaction line a little more and I have to say, I was pretty impressed.  The things that really stood out for me about the line:

  • No solvents – less drying on nails
  • No base coat needed – base coat is built into the color formula
  • Close to 200 colors!
  • Super shiny top coat
  • Matte is a big trend this fall, and since many of the colors dry matte you can wear the trend pretty easily without additional buffing or another topcoat.
  • It’s LED curable – 30 seconds per layer makes for a super fast service.  Can cure by traditional UV if you don’t have LED lamp.

The cool things is that there is also a complimentary Polish II line that matches all of the the Gel II (except for the Gel II Reaction), and it is also a base coat free formula. It also has an optional base coat if clients have ridges, or if you want a smoother application with some of the chunky glitters.

I ran out and bought a slew of colors to play with, but even so I’ve barely got 1/8th of the collection.  Still, I think you an idea of the fun range available with this line.  Available at select distributors and online at GelTwo.com  Try your hand at the Halloween art work contest while you are at it.

Gel II Reaction – Just like the mood rings, the polish reacts to temperature.  The main color changes when exposed to warmth.  In most of these shots you can see the free edge is the original color. I love this stuff!

Champaign (sic) Fizz

After Dark

Aloha Bay Bay

Beach Bali-Ball

Hawaiian Hurricane – an example of the matte

Hibis-Kiss

Mai Tai Fine

Malibu Sunrise

Shark Bite – another example of matte

Sun Goddess

Gel II Soak off gel

Chateau Noir

Disco Daisy

Femme Fatale

Music of the Night

Prima Donna

Secret Engagement

Unmasked Madame

CND for Michael van der Ham Spring/Summer 2014 Collection

London, UK (September 16, 2013)—Professional nail care company CND revealed four unique nail designs today at the Michael van der Ham Spring/Summer 2014 Fashion Show at Hotel Café Royal in London. CND Co-founder Jan Arnold and an elite team of CND Nail Artists collaborated with the designer to create works of art that beautifully complemented the designs presented on the runway.

After a fulfilling artistic collaboration with van der Ham last season, CND was thrilled to join forces with the designer again for Spring/Summer 2014. “Michael’s couture fabrics and modern take on femininity are both classic and inventive – they inspire us to create true works of art,” said Jan Arnold. “His collection ties in beautifully with our Spring trend, ‘Open Road,’ which consists of time-worn pastels for the modern muse. This girl is free-spirited and spontaneous with an eclectic edge.”

CND’s partnership with Michael van der Ham this season produced four soft-focus nail looks inspired by a deeply romantic and impressionistic garden. “Hand-painted flowers in combinations of yellow and grey, teal and black, pink, grey and coral, and the deepest navy and purple provide a cacophony of color on a ‘casual’ shaped nail as easy to wear as your favorite ballet flat,” said CND Lead Education Ambassador Amanda Fontanarrosa. “Tonal, painterly, dreamy and whimsical, this nail style is perfectly imperfect and reflects beautifully the woman of Michael’s inspiration.”

Jan Arnold and CND have been pioneering nail artistry on the runway for 17 years, setting trends backstage at Fashion Week since 1996. They continue to define the trends in New York and around the world with highly artistic and intricate nail concepts developed in collaboration with innovative designers like van der Ham.

“It’s really exciting to work with CND because they have a true understanding of how to finish a look,” said Michael van der Ham. “They come with a great set of ideas and concepts to complement the clothes in the right way. The nails this season are beautifully hand-painted – like little works of art on the hands.”

MBFW S 2014: Carmen Marc Valvo, Nonoo, TOME and Morgan Taylor

September 6, 2013

The soft, feminine sheer tulle and futuristic accents at Carmen Marc Valvo provided a stark contrast to sharp geographic prints on peek-a-boo pieces. This divergence was mirrored by an edgy nude manicure with black French tip created by Gina Edwards for Morgan Taylor using the Morgan Taylor lacquers In The Nude and Little Black Dress.

German painter, Gerhard Richter inspired Nonoo‘s artful, elegant, ladylike Spring 2014 collection. The polished clothes were further accentuated by a painterly nail designed by Gina Edwards. The base coat on all nails was a creamy spearmint Mint Chocolate Chip and each hand included an accent nail displaying a replica of a dreamy marbleized Gerhard Richter painting using a mixture of Mint Chocolate Chip, blended with the strong opaque white All White Now, punched-up pastille green Later Alligator and classic pale pink Luxe Be A Lady.

TOME’s menswear-shaped pieces colored with soft satiny pinks and muted metallics were balanced by foundation-shade nails custom mixed by Morgan Taylor to match each model’s unique skin tone. The understated manicures and pedicures enhanced their natural coloring and acted as an extension of their fingers and toes.

Morgan Taylor is a prestige professional lacquer collection of 100 shades that debuted worldwide in May 2013. It is sold exclusively in salons, retail price is $8.50 per bottle. For salon locations visit www.MorganTaylorLacquer.com.

Carbo Loading: Palladio Rice Powder Blotting Papers

They should never see you sweat or shine.

For my latest birthday my friend Melissa swallowed her pride and got tickets for us to see KE$HA at the Rave here in Milwaukee. Ke$ha music is just ridiculously fun! In turn, I surprised her by arranging for hair and makeup from Amanda Shallow. Melissa looked pretty hot in her eye candy:

I wanted a few dreds and Amanda obliged:

Lots of glitter in the hair, eyeliner and a few crystals on my face and, voila! I loved the end result:

Psst…I can’t help but think of this when I see the above photo:

The night was fun, but what we didn’t count on was the intense heat.  A storm was coming, but the only air blowing through was focused on the empty corners of the bar (because people were watching the concert, ‘natch).  Mike Posner was pretty incredible opening act, dancing non-stop in what looked like LEATHER.  He sh0uld have passed out at some point but blew through his performance. It only (literally) got hotter from there.

We really could have used some Palladio Rice Powder Blotting Papers.

These gorgeous little packs are small enough to fit in that night out purse, and cut shine in two ways.  One, the “paper” side, if you will, should be used to sop up any liquidy mess to prep the area.

Then, use the matte side to easily smooth over oil absorbing rice powder to stay fresh longer.

The sheets are generous in size, and come in  translucent, neutral and beige (brown rice? nyuk nyuk).

Be a spendthrift and snip these in half to make them last even longer.

40 tissues per pack

Available at Sephora and online
