LG (Toronto) Fashion Week issues FB and Twitter Lockdown
Update:
I contacted Megan Loach, Communications Coordinator for the Fashion Design Council of Cananda regarding the talk of a social media ban for LG Fashion Week beauty by L’Oreal Paris.
Ms. Loach denied any ban was in place and stated they were actually:
- Increasing seating to allow more online media (bloggers)
- Equipping the onsite Media Filing Room with 15-20 LG Netbooks for “immediate filing of stories from the event venue.”
- She said there had even been talk of adding a Twitter Booth this year (although this is not confirmed yet).
These are impressive moves, but in conflict with reports that designers had been notified to avoid all social media for their shows. Where is this talk stemming from? Please check back as the story gets updated. ~ Hillary
Social Media, at this time, is BANNED at Toronto Fashion Week this month for SS10 showings. Members from LG have apparently told all designers they cannot market their show using Twitter or Facebook for fear of impacting ticket sales.
This argument falls along the lines of newsprint. To stay competitive, newspapers have to maintain online presence. However, getting too popular online is causing their demise.
Does that really work in this case? Do you think increasing information for designers is killing their own show? Or is LG preserving the integrity of the system? Will keep you posted as we get closer to the event. In the meantime, speak your mind in the comments below.
