Golden Globes 2014: Emilia Clarke

Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend worked with Emilia Clarke from HBO’s ‘Games of Thrones’ for the 71st annual Golden Globes and shares his techniques with Solessence readers

This is the first time New Dove® Advanced Hair Series products are making an appearance on the red carpet. Comprised of the New Dove® Oxygen Moisture and New Dove® Pure Care Dry Oil collections, New Dove® Advanced Hair Series is a premium line of products that utilize the most advanced weightless moisturizing formulas and contain luxurious ingredients, designer fragrances and beautiful packaging. Launches this month!

Get the Look:

“I was so inspired by Emilia’s Proenza Schouler gown. The mix of embroideries looked like movement, so I wanted her hair to move beautifully as well.

– I prepped her hair by adding a few drops of the new Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Nourishing Treatment in her damp hair and combed through. It is loaded with African macadamia oil which is so nourishing for the hair.
– Next, I sprayed the new Dove Oxygen Moisture Root Lift Spray to the roots and blow dried with a round brush.
– Then, I took 3-inch sections of hair and wrapped each section around a 1 1/2inch curling iron. The large barrel creates bends in the hair instead of curls.
– When all the hair had been through the iron, I sprayed Oribe Dry Texture Spray all over to give the hair great texture.
– I finished by taking a few more drops of the new Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Nourishing Treatment in my hands and then raked it through her hair to give the hair tons of shine without weighing it down.”

Golden Globes 2014: Julia Louis Dreyfus

Julia’s haltered Narcisco Rodriguez dress was key

Celebrity makeup artist Karen Kawahara created the look for Julia Louis Dreyfus at the 2014 Golden Globes using Votre Vu products. The bright orangey-red color dress inspired her to focus the look on a stronger eye with a lighter lip.

Get the Look:
“Votre Vu Attentive Crème du Jour was used to prep the skin while the Amour D’Ore Multi-Vitamin Oil was placed applied to her body before hair and nails to ensure that it had time to absorb into the skin. I also applied a little bit of the Luxee Yeux as well around the eye contour.

I applied the Love Me Deux Foundation in Cannes to the entire face and concealed the under eye with a mixture of the Lingerie Pour Les Yeux in Light and Medium.

I also used the Lingerie Pour Les Yeux in Light all over the lids and applied powder on top of it to ensure that the eyeshadow lasted all night. I like to apply eyeliner first to create the shape I want in the eye and then shadow on top of that. I used Le Joli Crayon in Charbon and pushed it in between the lashes, then started with a very thin line in the inner eye, gradually getting thicker towards the outside. I added a little wing on the corners to give the eyes a lift. To create a popping eye, I used Votre Vu’s Palette in Play in Copper. The lightest vanilla shadow was placed towards the inside of the eye and the lighter copper color was brushed over about ¾ of the outside lid.

I also, very lightly, lined the inside of the eye with a burgundy color. The darker copper color in the Palette in Play was also placed close to the bottom lashes underneath the eye. To finish off the eyes, I used Eiffel Power Mascara as well as some individual lashes.

Julia, in on the opening skit

Vu-On Rouge Color Accent in Bouquet Rose was used to give some color on the lip and cheeks. I applied all over the cheek using my finger. I wanted to create pale lip, so I used a lip brush to apply the color and went over with soft coral for a bit of sheen.

I mixed the Arch de Triumphe in Fair and Dark Brown to go over the brows since I didn’t want them to seem too dark.

Then I used the Beaute en Bronze Blush which was very sheer and then applied the Dior Blush in Amber on top for a bit more color.

Lastly, I set her makeup with Belle Poudre in Light.”

Golden Globes 2014 : Emma Watson

Golden Globes presenter Emma Watson twists it up

It was the first time for Emma Watson attending the Golden Globes, and showing up as a presenter must have been magical. The occasion called for a classic Hollywood look with a slight twist. Vidal Sassoon Pro Series stylist Shelley Brien knew just how to compliment Emma’s night and special Dior orange and navy dress/pant suit (also deemed reverse mullet dress) with suede shoes.

Get the Look:

To show off the dress’s low back, Shelley thought a chic chignon would be the perfect style to complement her modern look. Emma’s striking look was the biggest fashion statement on the red carpet!

Here’s how Shelley created Emma’s look:

1.First spray Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray to damp hair. Take a medium sized boar bristle round brush and blow dry hair so that it’s straight and smooth.

2.Once hair is dry, create a side part and then spray Vidal Sassoon Pro Series ColorFinity Dry Shampoo in Rich Darks to the roots to create extra volume.

3.Backcomb the hair near the front of your face to create texture and then brush all the hair back until it’s smooth. Maintaining the side part, pull hair back into a low ponytail and then wrap hair loosely into a chignon. Wrap hair similar to a bun and then pin in place.

4.Pull a few pieces of hair in the front and tuck behind the ear to create a more modern, tousled look.

5.To finish, spray hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray to leave it with a sleek, finished look.

Golden Globes 2014: Robyn Wright

Celebrity makeup artist Tricia Sawyer used Orlane products to create Robin Wright’s gorgeous look for the 2014 Golden Globes.

WINNER: Robyn Wright took home the 2014 Golden Globes winner for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama

The look was inspired by the dress that Robin is wearing which is a very 1970’s club, vintage dress. “It’s a beautiful champagne color like a golden nude, so we kept to the color scheme.”

To prep the skin, Tricia used Orlane’s Absolute Skin Recovery Anti-Fatigue Masque. Afterwards, she applied Anti-Fatigue Absolute Radiance Cream all over the face. “I love this cream because it helps to retain moisture for long periods of time and Robin has a long night ahead of her so it’s perfect!”

Next, Tricia applied Orlane’s Absolute Skin Recovery Smoothing Foundation in Shade 20 with the Antonym Foundation Brush and spot concealer. To set the foundation, she dusted Orlane’s Poudre Libre all over the face.

To highlight and attract light for photography, Tricia applied a shine stick to Robin’s cheekbones, cupid’s bow, and the center of her nose. Then, she used a Dior coral blush on the apples of her cheeks and the Orlane Bronzer under her cheekbones and along the jawline for more dimension.

For Robin’s eyes, Tricia applied Antonym’s Certified Natural Eyeliner in Noir along the inside of the eyes and on the outer rim. She smudged it out with a small eye shadow brush and then used a customized eye shadow palette for a nude look. After applying a strip of lashes, she used Orlane’s Volume Care Mascara on the lashes.

To give her lips a nice color, Tricia used Dior Addict’s Gloss in #343.

For her arms, Tricia used Orlane’s Refining Arm Cream to moisturize and then applied the Orlane Bronzer to give a bronzey look.

Orlane products are available at www.orlane.com.

In the wintertime, I am a major fan of the Absolute Skin Recovery Smoothing Foundation. Check it out.
