Fashion Forward: Minkoff tries on CMO Saynt for Size

Saynt tweets his first day on the job

What a difference two years makes.  In February 2009, Daniel Saynt was telling Solessence BlogTalk Radio listeners his side of the story regarding the controversial rumors to his organizing a bumrush of fashion week tents.  Today, it was announced that fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff has tapped this pretty pony as Chief Marketing Officer for her beloved line.  According to Minkoff’s missive as released by The Cut, she sums up the decision this way:

“We feel bloggers and social media are playing a key role in the quickly changing industry, and we are shaping future marketing initiatives around these channels. Daniel’s experience will be an invaluable asset to Rebecca Minkoff moving forward. We plan to be a leader in the democratization of fashion, and Daniel will help guide us in that path.”

FashionIndie.com is known for edgier looks, reporting and attitude, and there is no question Saynt was brilliant running the game.   It will be an interesting journey to see Minkoff getting her money’s worth.

Shane & Shawn Introduce City Smart Laptop Bags

Those twins have done it again. After successfully introducing the world to impossibly comfortable but fashionable shoes, Shane & Shawn broke out with a small handbag collection, mentioned during my interview with the brothers in 2009. They loved the process of expanding their line in a new direction, so when they were asked to created a series of laptop bags for Best Buy they enthusiastically went to work.

The Shane & Shawn ‘City Smart’ collection has launched exclusively at Best Buy in Soho (622 Broadway, NYC) and features four, full-grain leather bags designed for 15″-17″ laptops.  Eight different colors (black, brown, pink, red, silver, tan white and powder blue) and metal rivets fancy up the exterior with a soft felt inner lining.

If you are in New York you can pop on over to the Soho store or order by phone at 212-673-4067 or visit Shane & Shawn online.

She’s Got the Look: Katy Perry Wins People’s Choice Awards

Danilo created a beautiful classic body set on Katy, a style that “she always loves so much.” They decided on full waves to complement her strapless Betsey Johnson dress for a “sophisticated, cutie-pie” style for the evening.

Katy Perry wowed the audience, and clearly the people, winning two People’ Choice Awards (Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Online Sensation) and major style points in a dress by Betsey Johnson and hair styled by Pantene Celebrity Stylist Danilo.

Danilo shares the steps he used on Katy Perry with Solessence readers so you can duplicate at home:

  • Katy arrived on the scene with freshly washed, towel-dried hair so Danilo had a clean base for styling.
  • He first lightly misted her hair with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Heat Protection & Shine Spray to wet and condition, then focused on prepping her roots for the voluminous style by spraying them with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Root Lifter Spray Gel.
  •  Danilo then blew her hair out and, once dried, rubbed a small dollop of the Pantene Pro-V Restore Beautiful Lengths Smoothing Balm section-by-section before he applied heat from the curling iron.
  • He used a medium-sized curling iron to set each section and sprayed the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Professional Level Style Shaping Hairspray over the set before letting it cool for five minutes.
  • He then released her hair, brushed it gently, and “let her hair fall very full and wavy.”
  • He parted her hair to the side with lift in the front, and left her remaining curls big and loose for the final finish.
