She’s Got the Look: Wella WOWS at Cynthia Rowley and DKNY

Bold pops of color were part of Fashion Week F/W 2010 runway hair designs at Cynthia Rowley and DKNY, courtesy of Wella.  Lead colorist Eva Scrivo shares how you too can get these looks come September:

CYNTHIA ROWLEY
The Look: A sleek, natural ponytail accented with the striking contrast of an artificial colored hair extension placed off center for an added tuft of textured fringe.
wella_rowley_mbfwff2010CynthiaRowleyRW661loresThe Hair Color: Wella Professionals Koleston Perfect Special Mix shades were used to completely saturate the natural hair extensions with rich, vibrant, jewel-toned shades of the collection. The sophisticated nuances of the Special Mix collection allow for creativity without limits – turning any color fantasy into a reality on the runway or in real life. The multi-dimensional tones and layers reveal sensuous colors in a range of shades, while embedded with an element of surprise.

The Products:

  • System Professional Ultimation: Strong-hold hairspray with long-lasting hold and maximum shine

Step-by-Step Styling

  1. 1. Section hair off and working from back of the head to the front, prepare hair with System Professional Ultimation hair spray for added texture and shine.
  2. 2. Create texture within each section by using a combination of a curling iron and crimping iron for non-uniform waviness.
  3. 3. Place Wella colored hair pieces that have been crimped within sections of the natural hair so that the extensions blend in seamlessly.
  4. 4. Pull the hair back into a soft ponytail at the nape of the neck with the ends flowing naturally, while allowing the streaks of color to show through for added dimension.

DKNY

The Look: A refined side-swept ponytail projects a sexy equestrian vibe with a subtly strong, yet not too masculine look.

The Hair Color: Using Wella Professionals’ new Blondor collection to achieve the palest of blondes, and both the Koleston Perfect permanent and Color Touch demi-permanent collections to create a gorgeous palette of naturals, handpainted extensions were created within the natural color palette of the models’ hair. The range reflects beautiful dimension in a variety of hues – from medium brown to a beautiful spectrum of blonde shades.

DKNYpalletteThe Products:

  • System Professional Volumagic: Natural hold styling foam for long-lasting volume
  • System Professional Hypercurl: Provides texture and definition to curl patterns

Step-by-Step Styling

  1. 1. Prepare damp hair with System Professional Volumagic and blow dry with a large round brush, creating a soft wave and giving direction for the side part.
  2. 2. Rake hands through hair to loosen the waves, pulling to the side of the part and fasten the low side ponytail.
  3. 3. Leave hair on the opposite side of the ponytail loose around the face to balance the asymmetry of the look.
  4. 4. Lightly smooth System Professional Hypercurl on the length of the ponytail for separation and added texture.

Purple Lab/HSN Launch Party

It is a beautiful thing to see dreams come true, and Karen Robinovitz’s beauty brand launching on HSN was a personal peak for her.  I didn’t get a tally on final numbers, but an update to  Thursday is that 4400 Silk Sheets had sold up from 600 just the day before!  That number has certainly pushed up and over that at this point.

towerofpower_purplelabmakeupI call this the Purple Lab Tower of Power.

Comments on the packaging:

“This really stands out.”

“Purple is my favorite color, I love it.”

We were plugged into Skype and had HSN rolling live.  There’s Karen Robinovitz now!

Comments on Cheek Implants, shade Backstage Pass:

“This color has a touch of pink, and would be flattering on most everyone.”

Comments on Silk Sheets Foundation:

“It feels so soft!”

Luvah provides a natural, berry stained look.

By the end of the evening samples were being checked again for wear.

“I love products that have multiple uses.”

(yes, the tagline is even Double Duty Beauty!)

We had to put the kibosh on sponsored snacks by Figenza Vodka and Pop Chips, but not before at least one bag was sampled:

Pop Chips are seriously yum and unique! Available here at Target, Sendiks, Sentry, Outpost.

purplelab_hsn_sponsors

Figenza Premium Vodka will be shared soon.  It is a beautifully packaged, smooth, fig flavored vodka.  I made up my own fruit filled concoction I call Figenza Fruit Cocktail.

Purple + Vodka + Women = WIN

Imported from Greece and sold in NY/NJ, Figenza Vodka needs to become available nationwide.

A huge MUWAH and love to Purple Lab, HSN and Karen & Sharon and everyone for a successful launch!  People were still calling and asking how to order – you can still pick up the special price at HSN.

Other beauty happenings:

Review: Sexy Makeup – Purple Lab NYC ‘s New Line

purplelab_hsnlaunch

Hello everyone, the HSN launch of new cosmetics line Purple Lab is finally here!  Founded by Karen Robinovitz (trend reporter for Women’s World Daily, author and style authority), this line is all about amazing active ingredients and a fun, sexy attitude.

The show kicked off on Thursday with Red Sole Huge Lips Skinny Hip.  You’ve seen me talk about this yummy tasting lip plumper before, and on launch day it SOLD OUT!

The new luxe foundation Silk Sheets sold over 600 pieces!

Fashionista/Modelista, the mascara with diamond dust? No question that will be a goner too.
lashionistamodelista

In a few hours Day 2 of the launch will commence and I can’t tell you how excited I am to be a small part of it!  We’ll be getting together to be among the first to sample the product and support Karen during her Friday night session. *shop*shop*shop*

The show will air between 6-7pm Centraland you can order online or call into HSN and talk to Karen about product and place an order!

Aside from the first top 3, I wanted to give some love to:

Luvah 3-D Lip Color

Luvah: Double Plumping Lip Color in a Stain and Pearl Gloss.  Tester Shade: Rich Jerk (berry)
Special HSN Price – $22.50

OMG, the lips on the mirror slay me.  This is not boardroom stiff makeup. It is a little serious, a little sexy, a lot fun.  Luvah continues the plumper tradition in a darker (left) stain that is simply WOW.  When I tried it with the Silk Sheets foundation, my lips were perfectly colored.  Very beautiful.  The right side 3D portion threw me a little at first.  It is pearly, almost grainy.  It gives a beautiful frosted look, and when dabbed just in the center of lips, really highlights the kisser, or can be applied over all to frost the look.

CheekImplants

Cheeks Implants: Inspired by runway looks, this is a creamy blush that glides across the skin while plumping, lifting and enhancing cheek bones.  Contains collagen, hyaluronic acid and nylon.
Special HSN Price – $26

This produces beautiful matte cheekbones! Cream blush is usually super glossy and sticky, something I don’t want on my cheeks .  Cheek Implants is as dry as you can get without being a powder!  It created enough depth and definition to know I could hit pan on this. I have the peach, which was dark enough to contour easily, and am dying to try the rose gold.

Watch tonight at 6pm Central on HSN and share if you purchased!

Angelina Jolie – New Hair

cindycrawford_sydcurry copy

The revival of big blocks of chunky highlights (think young Cindy Crawford hair, ala Syd Curry) shown at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2010 has arrived early.

angelina-jolie-newhairAngelina Jolie was spotted with the new ‘do, but no confirmation on whether this is for a new movie role she is filming or to partake in trends.

What do you think of the new look? I just got foiled Tuesday.  For later this year, predictions are really bold colors, like bright yellow or pink.  That might be a good time to try the blue I’ve been coveting.

If this drastic change is intimidating for you (admittedly, it is often harder for brunettes to transition this look), a finger strand by the temple or nape of neck is a safe bet to start with.
